lancemb
I am trying to help a guy out in Australia who doesn't have internet, so here goes. I have a 57 and not a 56, and the 57 doesn't have these, so I'm not exactly sure what these look like but if you know 56's hopefully you do!He has a 56 Special and describes the pieces as "mushroom" shaped things that go on the end (I think) of the spring rods that hold the hood insulation in.Can anyone confirm what these are, what they are called, and if they are available anywhere? He has already tried several sources with no luck and thinks he may have to find an old junkyard.Anyone have a picture? Help would be appreciated! Mudbone
This is one from my 55. I'm not sure if they are the same. Mud
MrEarl
54 and 55 are the same as you posted Mud. They become severely deformed and brittle. The 56's are flat and retain their shape. I may have some 56's, I'll need to dig in the barn to find them though.

Guest Buick Bonery
I have seen 56s with the masonite insert. The thick paper ones from 55 are being reproduced by Ken Mitson.
MrEarl
I'm glad this was brought back up. Lance, I found 3 of the 1956 masonite ones but could not remember who it was looking for them. PM me and we can discuss how to get them to the guy in AU. I have several packages going that way from my last ebay listing. Perhaps this might one of the same guys. And what is the contact info for Ken Mitson with the 54-55 inserts?
