"HOT" / "COLD" setting for Air intake?

On the air intake manifold on my 26 DB there is a Hot Cold setting. Does anyone know how it works? When do you set it Cold and Hot?

The control is designed to avoid condensation in the inlet tract during cold weather by breathing hot air through the exhaust manifold. Here in the temperate anitipodes it has little use as the hot air upsets the mixture. However, as you are Canada I would imagine that the facility would be fairly useful when the temperature gets under zero degrees C.
