buick840
I am looking at having the SP T400 trans in my 65 Wildcat rebuilt but before I go that way I have a SP T400 from a 66 Riv that I could have rebuilt and do a quick changeover on the same day if they are interchangeable. My question...........is a 66 Switch Pitch T400 identical to a 65 Switch Pitch T400?The 66 is mated to a 425 and the 65 is a 401. RivNut
A look at the code plate on the passenger's side will tell you if they're identical in such things as vavle bodies, etc. The transmissions for the Gran Sports (Code BS) had higher and firmer shift points. Each transmission is geared for a certain rear end ratio as well, so your speedometer could be off unless you used your old "drive" speedometer gear. Another consideration would be what kind of shifter was used on the donor car. Floor shifted cars could have different length shift levers than column shifted cars. These external things can be switched from your car to the donor transmission.Besides that, the transmissions are bolt in swaps. Ed
