Mark Huston
I pulled this from the 1930 edition of the Chilton Automotive Multi-Guide, page 134 "Birth Dates of Automobiles" 1902 Union and 1902 Upton, it does not say how long either one lasted. Ccar
Bruce,
I got out my chart that shows the "2600 Makes Of Automobiles Sold In The United States In The Past 80 Years Or More". Under the U's are the following:
Ulster - 1919
Ultimate - 1920
Union - 1902-1909
Union - 1912
United - 1912
United Motor - 1902
Unito - 1908
Universal - 1917
University - 1917
Unwin - 1907
Upton - 1903-1905
U.S. - 1908
U.S. Electric - 1899-1901
U.S. Long Distance 1900-1904
U.S. Motor Vehicle 1899
Its too bad the chart doesn't indicate where these vehicles were built. I guess research on the web might identify most, but probably not all. Anyway, hopes this helps
Chuck

Guest Royal Feltner
This is a great hobby and a challenge. On my web site Early Automobiles of America I have over a thousand photographs of automobiles from 1877-1929 with manufacturers names, dates and places made. There are over six hundred different makers. Also shown is the Union and Upton automobiles. Use a pencil and paper and see just how many letters there are.You will be amazed This is the best and largest site on the internet for early American automobiles. TG57Roadmaster
Royal, What an ambitious site you've created there! I've bookmarked it for further reference, and it's great to see so many obscure and forgotten marques "in the flesh," rather than grainy images in a book.Congrats, and keep up the good work...TG

Guest Royal Feltner
There was also a 1902 Union, made at Union City, IN from 1902-05. There is a very good picture of it on my web site www.earlyamericanautomobiles.com/autos1. Royal
poci1957
Royal, that is indeed quite a site, did you take all the photos yourself over the years? Todd
Guest Royal Feltner
Todd, I tried to but I had a breakdown on my time machine. My first auto was a 1942 Olds for $200 then a 1932 Plymouth sedan for $75.00 then a 1948 Plymouth for $300. My first new one was a 1962 Rambler American. In 1964 my wife and I were shopping for a bigger car. There was Ford Mustang that the salesman showed us, but because it was a new model Ford it was $3200,00 and no discount. We settled on one of the best cars that we have ever owned and that was 1963 Ford nine passenger wagon. What an automobile. Thanks for visiting my site and your comment. When you have time click on the Wells Automobile Museum page of mine and you will see the best automobile museum in the World. The have some of the rarest autos all in running unrestored condition including th8e 1902 Thomas in origin al condition amnd beside it is a 1902 Winton in the same condition. It is only forty five minutes from my house. I took all the pictures there. Also on the Special Automobiles Page, I have the only photos of the 1911, 1912,1913, 1914, 1915 Bailey Electric Cars and the only photograph of a Bay State Automobile. Take care, Royal
