I'm helping a friend decode a few numbers on his 1930 Chrysler Model 66 Business Coupe.

First of all, where should we look for a VIN number? (location)

Here are the numbers on the engine: (Original..)

Casting number: 310229-2 with a casting date of 1 31 30

Stamped number in side of block: CCJ3985 How is this number decoded?

Briggs Body number: 393-168

The VIN is: (from Title) H427HL How is this decoded? Date/Model?

Is there a website where some of these numbers can be researched and decoded?

Thanks Ken

The serial number of the car should be on the dashboard. There should be a cast oval "FEDCO" plate attached to the center of the upper dashboard with the numbers and letters on it. It will also have the Chrysler insignia on it. You must look at it at different angles in the light in order to read the number sometimes. Here are the 1930 numbers in the first and second attachments and 1931 numbers in the third attachment. Your car seems to be a 1930 "CJ" Series. The FEDCO badge looks sort of like the one in the last attachment except for the location....

O.K., Yes the numbers all point to a "CJ" model. Here are a few more questions now. What is the differance between the models? I thought this car was a model "66". It looks to be a "CJ".

Did they produce a "Business Coupe" in both the "66" and "CJ" models?

What should the wheels look like? Metal spoke or wood spoke?

Is there a website that talks about the colors that were available that year/model?

Thanks Ken
