How is the roof attached?

Recommended Posts

This a weird question but is the roof welded on about 2" down the sail panel, in line with the drip rail basically? I ask because mine has a very wavy look to it there and I'm curious. I'm not doing body and paint for a long time so I won't be able to see what lurks under there for a few years.

It isn't the actual line you see but that's the area where it's vertically wavy

You are correct in your assumption, the factory filled in the weld area with lead to smooth things out. If you remove the "A" piller trim you can see the welds there for the front of the roof.

I just checked the pictures of my 65 when I had it stripped for painting. About 2" down on the sail panel is exactly where the seam is.

I meant to add, mine was wavy and started to lift because rust was forming between the pinch weld flanges expanding them open. I ended up cutting them out and welding fresh steel in thier place shortly after this picture was taken.
