My 27 and a number of others i've see have a cheap aluminum frame around them. But i've also seen them without, and some with the running board rubber with a front trim. Which is correct, or is it just owners preference, if your just going for survivor and not restoration.

Original cars had a fluted aluminum extrusion framing, over the years many had it discarded. I'll try to get a photo of the original on my 1928 Commander.

Here is what came on my 1928 Commander, back about 20+ years ago when restoring my 1930 President 8 a fellow in Missouri had retooled that shape [different than 1928] and sold replacement rails for restorers then. I haven't seen his ads in that amount of time since.

Thanks, i will try and come as close to that as i can. mine has what looks like window frame on three sides and nothing in front. Yours looks way better especially with that front piece.

The extrusion is actually "U" shaped and wraps underneath the running board wood to stay in position better. A lot of contemporary resorations use the "L" shaped kitchen counter trim from Home Depot or the like.
