Multi-Range

I have read about but don't understand the Multi-Range transmission Chrysler used during the late Twenties and early Thirties. I know it is a four speed, apparently with a really low Low and a direct drive High. What are its advantages?

I would be grateful to hear from Chrysler who can describe Multi-Range in operation. How is it to drive a car so equipped?
