My tranny is poping out of second gear.I want to take it out to inspect it.Any tips for easy removal? Does the diff need to be moved back slightly for trans removal? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes it does...I found it was easier just to unbolt the rear springs and get the whole thing out of the way, but you can pull it back with the springs connected. You'll need to remove the rear brake hose, unbolt the parking brake cable, unbolt the panhard bar and the shock links. Then unbolt the torque tube from the back of the trans and pull it back...that's about it to get the torque tube out of the way.

While your pulling the trans, inspect the bushings on the shift rods. If they are shot the gears will not fully engage and cause the trans to "jump" out of gear.

Don't lose the beveled washer on the input shaft that puts tension on the input shaft bearing and the throwout bearing support. It often falls off. If missing it too can caust the trans to not stay in gear.
