MarkV
So, I got the waterpump back, almost have everything in order, but, I am having a leak out of the top part of the pump where it connects to the engine. I used all the right bolts, they are tight, I used gasket sealant, and gasket. It leaked really bad, then I added another gasket, and it doesnt leak as bad, should I add a third one? It makes no sense! and it is out of the top not the bottom!
Mark Shaw
I am not sure which car you are referring to, but maybe the mating flange is warped or corroded. Check it with a straight edge and/or grind it flat before mounting it again. Too many gaskets can provide a weak spot for further leaks...My 2 cents... Guest billybird
I hope this is not the case, but it sounds like you may have missed a spot of old sealer from a previous job. Every speck of old sealer must be removed for a uniform mating surface. I scrape the block surface with a putty knife, then thouroughly clean with a solvent such as laquer thinner. If it did'nt leak before then the block woul'nt be the problem.
