On large cars like our Rivs it is so importance to get the ride height stance right.

I try to aim for the stance that the designer had in his mind.

Ground to wheel trim

Front is 23 1/2" ground to wheel trim

Rear is 23"

They look very similar to my eyes and some basic editing shows they are close. I would say Toms has slightly more rake than Steve's. I personally prefer a bit of rake, rather than than stock, which have what I have termed droopy butt syndrome  And yes, I know,  angle of exposure, angle of vehicle etc., can make them look different.

Otherwise, nice stance, and thanks for the info! i'm planning on building my '64 to much similar specs!

Are you factoring how much the car dips to one side when there is a heavy driver behind the wheel, versus fully loaded with 4 adults, versus empty?

And don't forget going up a hill. Might have to pull over and adjust the floats🤪

Then why is it built with a difference in angles between the intake runners and the carb base, and why are there gauges to help you level the floats?

You tell me.  I'm just looking at the side view cutaway drawing on 2-4 of the 64 Chassis manual.  Pretty obvious there. YMMV.

Hi Ed, Rims came with the car when I bought it.

Like you I have only seen 6" rims.

Here is an example of how important stance is. Photo of 1965 Wildcat as per the marketing folks at Buick.

I don't think this is the height that the car came out of the factory.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Question: How did that young lady get to sit on top of that fence?

More importantly, how did she get down without her dress ending up over her head?

To me, looking at the space under the rocker panels, it looks to be nominal.  I don't imagine the PR folks would chop some springs for one shot, thus incurring the wrath of new car buyers upon dealers when they took delivery of a Wildcat with a higher stance.

The only 7” rims that I know of came on some 70s era Estate Wagons but it’s obvious that they’re different from the first generation wheels.  I

I’ve seen some 7” rims but they came from some late 70s era Estate Wagons.  They’re obviously different that the 1st and 2nd generation wheels.  Im wondering if the person from whom you got the car was familiar with how to properly measure a wheel. A 6” wheel will measure 7” across the wheel.  Measurements need to be made inside the bead as shown in this illustration of an 8” wide 15” wheel.

Black 65GS

Rims are 7"

Redline Tyres are 245 but my next set will be 235

Redline really suits Black but that will cost you.

Are the 245's too wide? Rubbing during hard cornering?

Heck....that's nothing compared to the famous Chevrolet 1964 Ad with the car and lady on top of "Castle Rock". ;)

Rims are 7"

Taken reference points as per sketch. Bead seat to bead seat.

I have some other rims from standard wheels (from another Riv) and they are 6"

The rims currently on the car are defiantly 1" wider than standard wheels.

I like the 245 as they are fat so as to protect the red line when I touch a curb.

And 235 would look more in keeping with factory look.

No rubbing problems during normal driving but had rubbing pulling into tight parking spots or pulling into or out of driveways that are not level with the road.

That’s nothing compared to the picture of the flight attendant from United Emirates Airlines who’s standing on top of the world’s tallest building ( which is more than twice the height of the Empire State building.  In their commercial. A 747 can be seen flying below her.8EB62FF8-3FFD-4796-9ACC-6EF3841CD9BB.jpeg.936c6a2099b211396918aba59c760d31.jpeg
