WHSEWARD
I have seen a number of threads around the topic of 36-39 air filters, but none that seem to hit the target for me. I have an East-of-the Mississippi (standard) air filter on my 39 Limited, with the removable copper mesh pack. The Owner's Manual says to clean it with "white gasoline" and then bathe it in oil before replacing it in the housing. Do they mean naphtha, like Coleman Camp Fuel? Is regular pump gasoline OK? Even if it's got ethanol in it? What do others use to clean this type of air filter?I would appreciate all responses. Thanks,
Mark Shaw
I think any type of solvent would work to clean it. I would suggest the oil used for K&N filters would work well to recoat it as it is made for that purpose.
Guest cdub8200
Clean with gasoline kerosene or Carb cleaner then let dry then oil with either wd-40 the k&n stuff or marvel mistery oil.
JoelsBuicks
There are no compatbility issues with ethanol and copper - just ask an old moonshiner!
