1955 Fuel Filter Location

The car in question is a 1955 Cadillac Coupe de Ville with a 331 c.i. V-8 engine. For reasons unknown to me, it has no fuel filter? I have procured the correct glass bowl type filter unit.

MY QUESTION IS: Should this filter be located before the fuel pump (between the gas tank and the fuel pump), or after (between the fuel pump and the carburetor), or does it make a difference?

My preference would be to filter the gas before it even enters the fuel pump.

originally the sediment bowl was located between the fuel pump and carb.there was also a filter that was used inside the bowl.

i own a restoration shop.we have many customers with this vintage of cad.we see the one carb set-ups,two fours, and the three duces just to give you a bit of my background.;)

The consensus of opinion, from multiple sources is the filter goes between the pump and carb. So, that is where it shall go. Was also told to install it with the glass bowl facing up. I don't know why, but shall do so?
