Repair of transmission flange

Recommended Posts

Removal of the flange from the transmission drive shaft in my 1922 Studebaker big six required a lot of torque on the gear puller. The flat part of the flange that bolts to the propeller shaft is no longer perfectly flat and must have been slightly bent during removal. How can this be repaired? Remachining or hydraulic press? I would appreciate any recommendations as I am only a novice. Thanks. Tom

Hyd press is best, as you can control the bending. The hardest part of the job would be trying to get the part set up on the press to bend it back. It most likely will need bending in seperate areas, rather than one big push. Take your time and use common sense while working it, and you can get it back.
