Rim Spreader

Recommended Posts

Question here regarding the proper use of a rim spreader (jack).

When reducing the rim diameter to mount the tire what is the

correct location of the three hooks in relation to the split.

Thanks for your input.

The upper leg (which cranks down / up) goes up to the area just behind where the rim splits, allowing the rim to be cranked down just barely enough to overlap (Underlap?) its adjacent section -- DO NOT CRANK DOWN ANY FARTHER THAN ABSOLUTELY NECESARY - or your rim will become "egg-shaped".

Reverse the sequence when reinstalling tire, tube, and flap.

I learned the hard way, thought that if a little is good - a lot is better, and had to find a new rim.

Easy does it.

I found it quite enjoyable demounting and then mounting five new tires on the Stude....I lie. But I put the adjustable arms one on each side of the split and lined up the straight arm directly opposite, seemed to work ok that way.
