Whippet engine difference

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone with knowledge could tell me how to distinguish between a Whippet 96 4 cyl engine and a 96A 4 cyl engine. Are there any outward signs indicating each? Is there really any difference internally? I am not a member of WOKR so thought I'd ask here.

The Whippet 96 had a 3 1/8" bore; 4 3/8" stroke for over 30 bhp. Last produced 3 December, 1928. The "new" Whippet 96A started production in October 1928. The engine was essentially the same; however, the stroke was revised. Bore was 3 1/8" while the stroke was 3/8" longer at 4 3/4". Bhp was now 40. I'd seriously contemplate joining the Willys Overland Knight Registry! They have a wealth of information and resources. So there you have it.
