Power Steering Gear box swap

Does anyone know off the top of their head if the power steering gearbox from a big series 54 will fit a 54 small series manual. I have several Roadmaster power steering boxes and pumps and want to use one on my 54 Special with manual steering. How about 55, do they fit a 54. I know I can look it all up in the parts books and manual but it's easier to just ask.

The shaft on the 55 big series is longer and it probably is also on the 54. I don't know about 55/54 interchange.

You're speaking of the "shaft" between the steering wheel and the power steering gear box right? Both cars are automatic transmissions. So if I remove the gear box from a big series car, it should fit the Special if I use the original shaft from the Special?

If you find a 54 small series unit, the manual transmission should not be a problem, but you should rebuild it before using.

The Special is an automatic. I considered swapping to manual transmission but decided against.

The shaft part numbers for 55 are different on the manual steering and power box.

Good catch, Willie. I thought he wanted to swap big to little PS shafts. PS shaft has no relation to manual shaft. You can section it though...........Bob

 sorry I didn't explain it better in the first post.... I want to convert my 1954 Special regular steering to power steering. I just need to know if the power steering gear assembly from a 1954 50/70 will interchange with a non power steering gear assembly on a 1954 40/60. I can't find a complete assembly listed in the Master parts book just parts. My Hollander shows that they don't interchange. If that's the case then does anyone have a 40/60 power steering assembly they want to swap for a 50/70. :(

Lamar, your biggest challenge will be finding the pulley. These are nearly impossible to find, as they are Special only. As I'm sure you know, the 264 was internally balanced and did not have a harmonic balancer. I would love to know if anyone has installed a harmonic balancer on their 264 to accomodate a bolt-on pulley.
