Guest hekay
Hi all. Would like to know the engine color for 1961 Willys Truck L226 engine. Were the transmission/transfer case painted. Starting to restore this which was my Dad's. It has a dump body. Thanks Harold. Edited December 5, 2009 by hekay (see edit history)
jimkf
Most Willys 226 engines after 1954 were painted silver. The bell housing was also silver but the transmissions were usually dark green. I've also seen the transmissions painted grey.
Guest hekay
Thanks Jim. This truck is a 1961 and has a rebuilt eng. There is a tag that on it says remanufactured for Kaiser Jeep Copr. The eng. looks like it is painted a dark red or moroon.
jimkf
Maroon was a color that Kaiser used to paint their passenger car engines in 1954-55. Looks like they also used it for their rebuilds. As an aside, dark blue 226 engines were Sears sold rebuilts.
Guest vettelang
Would a 1954 Willys 226 in an Aero be Maroon or Silver?
jimkf
The 226 used in the 54 Aeros was silver. I recently restored an 54 Aero Eagle Custom and the engine in it was silver.
Guest hekay
Is there a sorce for the correct engine paint for these Willys engines?
jimkf
For the silver engine, I used Duplicolor's aluminum high heat engine paint. For the maroon engine (my 54K), I used Duplicolor's Dark Canyon Red truck paint. It's held up to the heat without blistering or fading.
