overdrive and oil

:confused:

the borg warner book on my overdrive says no oil of the hypoid axle

type should ever be used in it.

1947 lincoln continental

can any one tell me how to get oil for it that is not his type?

also is valvoline 50 this kind or not??

Lubricants for Hypoid axles contain "extreme pressure" additives that will attack "yellow metal" (bronze / brass) found in trannys and OD units.

If your manual recommends SAE 50 oil for the OD unit, then any quality SAE 50 motor oil is safe, ie: Valvoline. Best to stay with a "straight-weight" oil.
