Guest jchagop
Regarding my 64' 425: How much torque should I put on the dampner for the crank that sits inside the harmonic balancer? Have been told a compression gun wont cut it, but I am afraid to go too heavy and snap the bolt. Is there a better way to do this than as a two man job jamming the fly wheel while applying torque?Jon
Bill Stoneberg
The manual say 200 + foot pounds. If it is loose you are going to tear up the snout of your crank and then you will have a bigger job on your hands. I torqued mine to 250 pounds. Work your way up 25 lbs at a time. The flywheel and anopther person with a screwdriver to hold the flywheel is the only way to do it. When the torque wrench clicks, you can hear it down the street. gungeey
Try sticking a bunch clothesline down a spark plug hole while both valves are closed and the piston's on the upstroke. Then it's a one man job, plus flywheel teeth get chipped the other way.
