1930 model 40 intake manifold heat riser valve

I guess I am confused.... The heat riser above the carb has no valve that I know of...

As far as I know, it is a straight steel tube pressed inside a casting that connects the carb to the intake manifold. Exhaust comes into the heat riser at the back and exits through a horizontal tube through a valve at the bottom of the exhaust downpipe near the front of the engine....

What valve are you referring to? The one at the front of the engine?
