24T42
Besides the AACA web page, I often visit other National antique car club web pages. I have noticed several exciting happening and wondered if the AACA is considering something similar?
1. The Model T Ford Club of America has put all of its back issues of its magazine the Vintage Ford on CDs. You can get all 35 years of publications on 7 CDs for $119.95 plus shipping.
2. I noticed that the Horseless Carriage Club posts the minutes of the National Board meetings.
Just wondering ...
Guest SalG (Sal Grenci)
24T42, Those Model T guys are more advanced than us in some ways and worse off than us in other ways. You can become a member online, we still can not. The MTFCA forum is not as good as ours, they have forums, but they must have limited space, because they are always going to another number i.e. Forum 48, then to Forum 49, etc. instead of our endless forum.
As for the Horseless (aka the touring club, as their motto says) they have published the minutes of national board meetings in their magazine for years. (Also, at the MTFCI, the other T club any member can sit in on a national board meeting.)
It is difficult to teach old horses new tricks. (It is also hard to teach old drivers of horse powered cars new tricks too.) Howard's idea of changing the voting system is a good example of that. We need a little new blood in the top ranks of this club. How about a board member under 30? I am a rare person in the hobby, at 38 I have been a dues paying member for over 25 years. Why not actively seek someone from outside the inner circle? Why not seek minorities? How about some big shot from the big 3? Or the after market world?
Just my 2 cents.
[ 11-05-2001: Message edited by: SalG ]
Guest
Before anyone misunderstands my motives for instituting the petition drive to change the "Vote for 7, no more no fewer" ballot requirement, let me make my reasons perfectly clear.
I do not like being forced to vote for someone I do not feel is qualified or a good candidate solely because I need to fill in 7 names on my ballot in order to have it count. Now please don't tell my to read the biographical sketches and decide from that. The candidates write their own bios. Who is going to say that they will do their best but "tend to be lazy and put off duties", or something like that.
When you must vote for 7 of nine as on this year's ballot, some of us are going to vote for someone we don't want. Now if we could vote for at least 5 but not more than 7, as our petition states, then at least we could vote with a clear conscience.
The person we do not want to vote for may very well be elected, but we will know that our vote was not the one that put that person over the top. I can acccept the will of the majority, but I cannot accept being forced to cast my vote with that majority.
hvs
novaman
good refresher from about a year ago when this was brought up. I for one like the idea of not needing to vote for seven just to make my vote count. I don't like being forced into a possible situation where I have to vote for someone I don't want in office or have no earthly idea who the person is just to come up with 7 to make my ballot count. Guest
Maybe the time has come to re-establish the petition on the forum with its own thread as was done last year. I will do that provided a reasonable number of you request it. Last year we got a pretty good number of names on here and there are a lot more registered now than then.
The petition and a letter of explanation was sent earlier this year to every Region and Chapter in AACA. I wonder how much circulation it got?
hvs
