Actually the "restoration" of the 1917 Barrie Bell is quite a story. All they had to start with was 1/2 a grill shell with the emblem and the back half of a touring body, NOTHING ELSE. Took about 7 years to find or make the parts. Pieces that were built from scratch included a frame, gas tank, all brake hardware, hood, and a complete steering column including machining all interior parts and casting the housing etc. As finished the Barrie Bell is indistinguishable from the only remaining American built Bell and won its First Junior at Hershey a few years ago. The Barrie Bell was built under license from the Bell Auto Co of York, Pa. A Herculean restoration of a locally historically significant automobile if there ever was one.
