RivNut
If the engine in this car is truly a 401, then it's not the original engine. ALL '66 Rivieras were equipped with the 340 hp 425 (7.0 liter) motor. To check to see if it's truly the original engine, the stamped (not cast) numbers on the machined surface of the block behind the thermostat housing should match the VIN for the car. The engine code for '66 425s' will be M ('66) W (425) unless it's the MZ, super wildcat option. Note: the 401 had a torque rating of 445 lb./ft. and the 425 had a torque rating of 465 lb./ft. Guest Dre
I did all the research and it is a JT413 1963 401ci nailhead. one of the prior owners swapped it out. I have correct the TQ number.
RivNut
Dre,I scanned Page 2-2 of my '63 Buick Chassis Service Manual for you. In the right hand column under Series 4600-4700-4800 the only engine available was the JT. Check it out: Max. Brake HP, Bare engine - @ RPM = 325 @4400 rpm.Engine Torque (lbs.-ft. @ RPM) = 445 @ 2800Look at the decal on any 401 T engine and take a guess as to why it's called a "Wildcat 445"

The 425 for '63 was coded JW and came with a 465 Wildcat decal on the breather. 2,901 units were delivered with a 425.
