Antique Car Definition

Recommended Posts

Would anyone know what the criteria are, in Connecticut state, for a car to be considered an antique?

Thanks!

acar1040,

Do you mean to obtain an "Early American" plate in CT? The DMV defination in CT is 25 years, I believe. And despite the wording, it does not need to be an American built car. There are other options, as well, using "original" year of Manufacture plates, etc.

That then gives you a max value of $500 for local assessment if that is your concern. For details, as suggested, check the DMV.

also, unless the original statutes were changed; the car needs to be unmodified...but that was back in the 80s when I read it.

I think in most states the general rule is 25 years. Many states have restrictive laws on when and where an antique can be driven. Most states do however, allow saftey related upgrades sush as glass, brakes and seatbelts.
