These are classics and in a few years will be antiques as well. The 'Gov' tried it once before and it didn't work then. You need to buy a new car that gets better mileage.And I have a 2 low mile Mark 8s that qualify but I cannot see them being melted down into new Kias.And, the reason this time will be more sucessful is the depressed car prices PLUS the 3500-4500. for a heap means a new Kia for say, 9000. for your co-ed daughter. I was just seeing what reaction this would have. There aren't any new cars that I would want in replacement. I also noted that not many chrysler dealers in Mo are participating. I wish the Canadian government and indeed Chrysler would give us Canadians better rebates and prices. I do not know the inner workings of the US government, but I suspect they are not much different than the Canadian government. We have gone through this type of program before (allbeit a different name). The last thing the lawmakers want to do is get rid of all older cars, simply because of the of all the good that they do. Owners of collector and antique cars but products to keep their cars in good working order, they are used in parades for peoples enjoyment, car clubs use their cars for fund raising, taxes are paid on transfers of our cars (now that's something you dont hear the governments complaining about) and so on.Hell we buy a forutne in cleaners, waxes and polishes.What I do agree with is the removal of junk off our roads. If someone is keeping a piece of crap on the road because he cannot afford a newer car he is not only polluting but putting all our lives at risk. I would like to see all the unsafe cars removed from our roads.I do not think we will ever see the removal of our properly maintained collector or antique cars from our roads. He is from that faction that thinks Uncle Sam In his all powerful way has run over all other countries in our attempt to run the world. when in fact that is exactly what his inexperience and arrogance is causing him to do to this country now. LZ Not only does he not have any political experience. He has no real worldly experience. I also think as an inner city person he may never have had a car. I was born during the depression and I do remember how it was. Maybe not exact instances but generally so. One of the big problems I'm quietly wrestling with is; his similarity to Adolf Hitler, and the manner that he proceeded in Germany. With that in mind I believe this is just a feeler. He believes anything old is a detriment to the world, cars are just one of many that slow down the continuous sale and movement of product. My belief continues to them trying to rid us of all antiques maybe including people. OK no more that's it for the soap box... Take the Lights,seats,dash,tops,windows,etc. You have to have them insured for 1 year and have owned them for 1 year. For $4500 back they have to get 18mpg or less and you have to get a new car that gets at least 28 mpg or 10 mpg more than your clunker. TCParts Posted August 10, 2009 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Before so many people's ignorance of the program details puts more bad information on this forum, the Clunkers laws SPECIFICALLY exempts cars 25 years old or older from the program. The Administration is not "trying to get rid of all collectible cars". The fact that the TC, Reatta and a few other cars that are less then 25 years old are collectible are an anomaly, as their current market value has plunged so far over the last few years. Certainly, any car worth collecting *should* have a value of at least $3,500 to $4,500 in any market condition. There are no "partial rebates", only $3,500 and $4,500. I have read all 126 pages of the law and have experience in the transactions as the buyer of salvage vehicles. I suspect more "good" TCs are taken off the road by non-licensed, non-tax paying owners trying to make a fast buck off of parts than will be traded in through the Clunker's program. In addition, on most transactions the sales tax and registration fees paid on the new vehicle are almost equal to the rebate amount, so most of the rebates are *paid back* the day of the transaction.If anyone needs to know correct, unbiased information, as well as the requirements of "road worthy" please do not hesitate to email me privately.info@TCParts.com Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest My TC Toy Posted August 27, 2009 Share Posted August 27, 2009 Just for information, I was reading on-line that US dealers have submitted a final total of 690,114 'Cash For Clunkers' deals for a total of $2.88 billion in rebates, just below the governments #3 billion estimate.Further to that, at one point dealers had submitted $1.91 billion in rebates and had been paid a total of $140 million. Sounds to me like the dealers will be paying additional interest on their financing before they get all their rebate money. Not that I feel sorry for the dealers, bit I am sure some will be paying more for this deal than they expected, and will probably end up being hurt!
