i have 4 new tires coming tommorow. for 1927 Hupp wood spoke wheels.

someone tell me do i force the tires on???????

or drive the pin out of wheel, which makes it easy to

get a tire off, but it is hard to get rim lined up and

put the pin back in??/?

or is there a better way?

thanks

The first thing after you get the tire and rim off the car is remove the air from the tire. Then drive out the round pin that holds the rim together. Then collapse the rim where its butted together so it can go by each other. Then you will need a rim spreader. Its a tool that clamps the rim in 3 different places. One leg has threads and 2 gears and a handle. Turn it one way and it collapses the rim and the other spreads the rim back out so you can put the pin back in. Do Not put the new tires on without installing a new flap If you do not have a rim spreader you should borrow one as it will make your life a little more pleasant. The last thing, DO NOT put any air in the tire without the pin installed as thats what holds the rim from collapsing.

i think i can make a spreader out of a turn buckle and some misc metal.

i can get pin out and rim collapsed now with no spreader.

thanks

I have a 29 and I took my tires and rims to an old tire store. They put new flaps and tubes on the rims and it was about 20 bucks each. Sometimes it pays to "Pay the man"!

Whow the last time I bought new flaps they were $10.75 and tubes were $ 22.50, I would say you got a heck of a bargin if they put in a new flap and a new tube and mounted the tires for $20.00. That reasonable I would not mess with them either.

Well i got three on today and had one pinched tube.

so i really got two to go.

i bought two large turn buckles. one to pull the rim in and one to push

the rim back out.

had to make them with added hooks etc. but it works.

thanks for advice
