New 1930 Automobile to ID

I saw a Murphy-bodied roadster at an old car meet in northern California when I was there in 1978. I wonder if this is it. I see that the Standard Catalog reckons total production of Dobles was only about 45 cars - there is one tourer here in NZ.

Hi,

We received an interesting enquiry on our Help Page some years back about a 'Rolls' looking car photographed in the UK which turned out to be Abner Doble’s own car. Much research and article on the history of Doble subsequently followed and, if anybody is interested, can be seen on our website http://www.svvs.org/doble.shtml .

The attached image is a Doble that was restored by the Harrah Collection. The car could be the same one that was photographed at the factory. Other than the different headlights, the Harrah car looks the same to me.

Hi,

On ‘Stanley Steamers’ website there are pictures of some existing Doble cars. Abner’s car is the cream one. The same owner has/had a green one, also shown. The green one could be the one in your picture except that the above has a light roof. If so, your picture may require being flipped because the emblem on the radiator is on the right ?? See http://stanleysteamers.com/page19.htm .

The ‘Online Archive of California’ website has a picture of a Doble headed ‘Doble E 24 in Harrah's Automobile Collection, Reno, Nev. 1963’, - which appears to be Abner’s car. See http://content.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/kt396nc4dm&brand=oac/ .

Perhaps Harrah had TWO.

For Doble article see our website http://www.svvs.org/doble.shtml .
