Does anyone have a lead to who might offer a new pinion and ring gear set for a 1930 Chrysler six? I believe my ratio is 4.7 to 1 and I'd like to change it to something like 3.5 to 1 so it will run better at higher speeds.

I had extra parts when I restored my 30 Desoto 6 with 4.7 ratio and installed a 1933 4.3 rear easily. It makes 50 mph an easy cruising speed but of course hill climbing not quite as good. 2nd gear still not much good for anything other than a quicker boost to road speeds.

I think a drop down into the 3s would probably make for a lot more shifting in mountain terrain.

Thanks, Martin. I appreciate the input. I was estimating with 3.5 because I had a Model A Ford yrs ago and it had a 3.7 I believe. I could go 60mph in that Ford with a 4 cylinder engine easier than I can in my Chrysler six. The Chrysler is very quick on the take off though. I would certainly find the best all around ratio for my car before I install. Jim
