Clutch-head fasteners--when did they stop using them?

Recommended Posts

Anyone who has messed around with '50s Buicks has encountered these fasteners--the Clutch head bolts that have a sort of Figure 8 recess in them for the tip of the tool.

When did Buick (and GM) stop using these on passenger cars?

I know my '62 Chevy truck has them in several places (Dimmer switch fasteners, window lift hardware, etc).

What's the latest Buick or GM any of you guys have encountered them?

And does anyone know if the other manufacturers used them, and if so, up thru about when?

They're also found on Holley Carbs, though smaller than the Chevy pieces I've encountered.
