Aunger
Wodehouse Mystery CarCan someone please tell me what kind of car this is? The driver/owner is P.G. Wodehouse, famous British author and the picture was taken in 1928. The picture appears on the jacket of his biography by Robert McCrum and also at:http://pro.corbis.com/search/Enlargement.aspx?CID=isg&mediauid={DB5102F2-193B-4AA7-A7BE-4C462ABA0677}Wodehouse mentions a Widgeon 7 in one of his novels but I believe that car is completely fictional. Thanks,Dick Aunger[image]http://pro.corbis.com/search/Enlargement.aspx?CID=isg&mediauid={DB5102F2-193B-4AA7-A7BE-4C462ABA0677}

Aunger
Don't know why image didn't show up(?) I tried to do it like it said in FAQ where it says: type [image] then add websight. I'll try again. (The image does pop up if you copy-paste this websight into your web browser.)Dick Aunger[image]http://pro.corbis.com/search/Enlargement.aspx?CID=isg&mediauid={DB5102F2-193B-4AA7-A7BE-4C462ABA0677}
West Peterson
Nope. That link you're providing isn't working. The link I provided above should work, though.
Aunger
Thank you and sorry for the trouble. A better image showing the complete car with it's distinctive grill can be found by going to Google then pick "Images" then search for wodehouse car. It shows up as the very first image.Dick Aunger
1912Staver
I believe it is an English AC {the same Co. that a couple of decades later built the AC Ace which evolved into the Cobra. The body probably would have been built by a outside coach builder as was common on the better English cars .Hope this helps.Greg in Canada

Aunger
Thanks, that must be the car. I went back to Google Images and searched for "1928 ac" and found:http://www.automobileadshop.com/1928-ac-acedes-6-cyl-2-seater-touring-car-priced-advert-112-p.aspWhich looks like the exact car. I guess the only mystery, for me any way, is how to add images.Thank you very much,Dick Aunger
Vintman
Hi Folks,Bit late with this one, but we have a similar AC car, although the 4 seater Royal, on our Help Page 10, half way down : http://www.svvs.org/help10.shtml. The Woodhouse car seems to be the 2 seater Royal. These came as 10 or 12 hp and Royals were built 1920-28. I guess the Woodhouse car may be pre 1924 as it has no sidelights on the mudguards but by the windscreen. Photo is said to be 1928.Kind RegardsVintman (UK)www.svvs.org
Agra
The car is driven by the female protagonist in "Summer Moonshine." The 7 is spelled out as in Widgeon Seven. I had to look it up which is how I landed at this community. Curious if he mentions the car in any other novels.
Tekija
Yes it is: in "Very good, Jeeves" in chapter "The Spot of Art". Quote about a red two-seater: "And her Widgeon Seven is red".
