re: sealed beam headlamps. What era is correct?

I found this on page 20 of the <span style="font-weight: bold">2009 Judges Guidelines </span>handbook. It does not specify car vs. truck applications.

lamps and foglight bulbs.

12. 1947 First use of sealed beam lamps in

spotlights

and driving lamps.</span>

Someone else may have more specific information.

Hi Mark,

The first generation of sealed beam headlights was a composite construction (metal reflector, lens, and a conventional bulb soldered into the reflector). The bulbs in the composite sealed beams are not replaceable. This lamp construction continued until the late 1940s or early 1950s (depending on the lamp brand name), when the composite design was replaced by the current design. See the attached image.

The three headlight alignment projections were added to sealed beams about 1957.
