xschx
I am getting ready to a conversion on my Merc. I bought a universal wiring harness and would like to know what else I need before I get started, like how many of the 6v to 12v converters to buy and things like a new coil? I am thinking if I buy the alternator then I can take some of the regulators out of the loop? Anyone ever do this before or at least know of anywhere that has detailed instructions on how to do it? DavidAU
Here is a few web sites dealing with this subject that you may like to read through before you start. Not a big deal and a good upgrade in my book.Davidhttp://www.oldengine.org/unfaq/six12.htmhttp://www.fordbarn.com/earlyv8/forum03/messages2/5114085.htmlhttp://www.ytmag.com/articles/artint131.htmhttp://www.btc-bci.com/~billben/flathead.htm

19tom40
You can buy a reproduction harness for your car from Tyrees wires, Rhode Island wiring or Narragansett reproductions.Unless you are adding AC, I would leave the car at 6 volts. Adding an alternator will add to the complexity of your car and adversely affect its reliability.
