Guest DBAcadia
Hi Jan, A kit might be easier for both (top and side curtains) as I have no side curtains at all to use as a pattern or any braces (if thats what they're called). What's available?
jan arnett (2)
I believe that Hampton Coach may have a kit for the top. I don't know of any kits for side curtains. They should be easy to make. You will have to make side curtain rods and then use heavy butch paper to make up templates. Use flexible plastic in place of Isaglass.Jan
Guest DBAcadia
I looked into Hamton Coach, they stock Chevy and Buick. LeBarron Bonney carries Ford and Mercury, ABC carries some later Plymouths. Nothing out there specifically for Dodge Brothers? Is a '24 Touring top common with another manufacturers model? jan arnett (2)
I know there are people on this forum that have 24 touring that can answer the question. If not then you will have to do what I am doing on my 1923 Moon. Set the top irons and bows in place and then make a top out of light weight material to build a pattern. Take the pattern and touring to your local trimmer and have them make one for you. Are you a member of the Dodge club as I believe they have a list of suppliers. Lots of luck and if I can help please contact me at Modelt1916 (kill spam) @yahoo.com.Jan
Guest DBAcadia
Thanks Jan, I'm going to measure the top to my other DB '24 touring for fabric needs. I have an armfull of old bows but no top irons and no rear window. I joked with Vern last night that one way to get a top is buy one that comes with the accessory car. He would like to make a mold of a rear window frame to cast some repros and asked if I had a loose one for that. I wrote no,not unless I roll #2 over this Spring. Guest DBAcadia
Anybody got a loose rear window or frame to make a mold from?
Guest DBAcadia
Sicko humor: all except the drivers seat should be called jump seats as in case of imminent rollover one should jump clear of the wreck. I think Ive got cabin fever. Hurry up Spring.
Guest DBAcadia
I know a guy that has fabric 57" wide. I measured 112" including rear.Added 20" for both sides (not including curtain material) for 132"(11') Does this seem correct for DB '24 touring 116" wheelbase? Guest DBAcadia
Big Mark, do you suppose the scissor portion of Roadster top irons may be common to Touring for same years as to the height dimention, and one would need to craft a longer tube running forward, or all dimentions are different? dwollam
Touring has one more bow than roadster, besides the longer front arms.
bobs1916
might want to check with JOHN'S ENTERPRISES in CA. He restored the sockets on my 16 touring car. He may also have some sets available. If you get a set needing work HE IS THE BEST although slow. The set I sent him were pretty rusted out. He replaced each socket reusing all the scissors and castings . Results excellent. Cost about 650 to redo a complete set. Also I am in CT and I have a top maker...Excellent
