Joining the conversation, from Sailors Falls, near Daylesford, Victoria. August 7th,2019.

Am a freelance motoring writer/photographer. Was told by friend, an ex VICRAIL train driver, who had seen this 1936 Dodge Railcar at the Daylesford Railway Workshop. I have visited a couple of weeks ago , taken photos and have more of the story.

The car now has a replacement engine from a Dodge truck and a crash gearbox, also replaced. The body is about to be sent to Melbourne to a Classic car restorer for body and trim work. The Marketing Officer says they , (volunteers with this Tourist Railway) hope to have the vehicle completed within 18 months ready for tourist rides at their Sunday market/train rides.I am writing a media story with an emphasis on looking for some funding from train enthusiasts.

Only yesterday I signed up to this forum. I thought it be appropriate to continue this post on as Elmhurst_motor is no longer working on the project. All credit is due to him for the work he put into the restoration up until his work ceased, but he will always remain to be the main contributor of the PMMs restoration.

With the post taken in Aug 2019 above, not long after this the PMM was transported to a restoration specialist in Bayswater in Victoria.  After arriving work recommenced on the PMM, then the COVID pandemic took hold and progress slowed.  In March / April 2022 I got inspired to get involved with the project.  As I'm not doing the physical restoration work, I'm assisting with sourcing spare parts and by default have become the project coordinator.  I've spent many hours to date obtaining pieces and still working on this.  I'm up to finding the really hard to find items, but we are lucky enough to have a least one or more of each piece, except for a glove box door.  A big help has been for Dave at Dodge City Vintage.  He's been fantastic, and I take my hat off to him, as the parts I got from him certainly has turned the project around and pointed it in the right direction.  A lot has happened since early 2022.  I've added some photos on what the PMM looks like presently.  Work is currently concentrated on the doors, there is a lot of work that has gone into these doors, and this was a bottle neck due to not having all the parts to progress them.  Our railway has done a lot of offsite work to assist the restoration to speed up the project.  Once the doors are complete, filling work can commence and then prep for painting.  As we are not far from the end of year, this work won't commence until next year now.  Moving forward I will try and post updates for forum members to enjoy or ask questions. To date it has been a steep learning curve for me. I have learnt a lot, and I am still in contact with Elmhurst_motor who has assisted me on items when I'm not sure.  For now, enjoy.  PS.  If you're wondering the radiator grille was hand made from scratch using an original example that was in fair condition.
