John Bowles
Has anyone used a 8 volt battery to replace the regular 6 volt , my bands get dry and the car turns over hard after sitting for a while and wants to jump forward when cold starting after it is warmed up and running for the first time of the day it seems to be fine. just wondering, 1926 ford T
Guest simplyconnected
How is your generator ever going to charge an 8-volt battery? Most 6-volt batteries never see a full charge unless you keep your rpms real high all the time (or you run an alternator). 8-volt is not the way to go. Light bulb life will shorten because they are designed for 6-volts.
JFranklin
Your starting problems are just quirks of the Model T and will not change with an 8 Volt batt. when you park your car chock the wheels and leave the brake lever in the high gear position. It is the cold congeled oil between the clutch disks that cause the drag The oil will be squeezed out if you store in gear. you can always jack up a rear wheel in neutral to ease starting. a multi grade oil may improve things by being thinner when cold.
