Importing a Classic from Europe -- Italy

Has anyone firsthand experience buying an American-made Classic car in Europe and importing it back to the USA?

Can someone recommend a Customs Broker, shipping company, or other business who can handle the process?

The car would be coming from northern Italy and going to the northeast USA, like Boston, NY or Baltimore.

Any recommendations on a good entry port for the US? I've heard to avoid New York.

Thanks ---Scott

Haven't looked into this in a while, but the Netherlands used to be a preferred exit point (Rotterdam and Amsterdam), or Antwerp. The brokers used to advertise in the Herald Tribune, but the gray market ain't what it used to be for imports to the US.

In my business, Motorcar Portfolio, we buy and sell cars overseas all the time. We ship in and out of New Jersey with a broker, Trans Ocean Autos. They are real pros, and we subcontract all such work to them 100% The shipping company they use is called Railhead. But for more information and contact, just go to Helen's web site www.transoceanauto.com. BTW. Helen has had a booth at Hershey and Carlisle for nearly 30 years and handles the shipping from those shows. She also handed a recent import we had on a 1940 Nash Ambassador convertible from England, it went great. We highly recommend Trans Ocean Autos either direction.
