Greetings all, Scott here again. Wondering about the backspacing on Riviera wheels. I have some Buick ralley wheels and want to know if they will fit. thanks!!

There might be some letter stamp codes on the wheels that would identify their use (via the GM/Buick parts books) for Rivieras and other GM cars. As per the aftermarket wheel vendors, "backspacing" does not include the lip at the edge of the wheel, but uses the flat surface on the outside of the wheel where the tire bead is.

There are two ways to measure wheel dimensions :-

1) Backspace - is the measurement from the mounting face of the wheel to the very outside of wheel. A wheel that is advertised as bieng 17 x 8, is physcially 9" wide, the 8" measurement is the tire mounting width, which normally is 1" narrower than the wheels physical width (1/2" front and back)

2) Offset - which is the measurement of distance the wheel mounting face is from the wheel centerline

So if your wheel is described as having - 16mm offset, it is approx .5" further towards the back of the wheel (more dish).

To calculate backspace take the wheel advertised width (8"), divide by 2 (4") subtract .5 for offset add .5" for physical width.

So a 17 x 8 wheel with a -16 mm offset will give you a 4" backspace.
