john2dameron
When the 1946 ZIS Convertible was on display at the Packard Centennial Meet in Warren, Ohio, either paperwork displayed in a window of the car or on a sign board, (and I don't remember which) stated that it was originally the private limousine of Joseph Stalin. Guest Max. M.
are you talking about the car on the attached photo below? more on the Zis here Packard Motor Car Information - ZIS 110 [Packard Forums - ZIS, ZIL, and other Packard Cousins!]
john2dameron
That looks like the same car. When I took photos of it at Warren it had just arrived on the Magnum Opus show field and still had the top up. Don't have any experience posting photos here so won't try that. Guest Silverghost
My father worked for the Budd Co. for 50 years. They had hundreds of old sheet metal stamping die sets in storage for many decades. They were used to re-stamp fenders etc from time to time for OEM replacement parts. They re-stamped 55-56-57 T bird fenders & quarter panels about ten years ago ! At one point decades ago a large group of these die sets were shipped to Europe. Dad later heard that some dies later wound-up in the USSR ! Could some of these old body panel dies have been used in some of the former USSR autos mentioned in this thread ? Some of the body panels posted in photos here sure look like old US designs ! Big Beat
Cool, a Gaz-21 Volga. What year? What's the story behind that one? How is the Pobeda doing, what kind of work did you have to do on it? Last month I saw a ZIM in Brooklyn. Too bad I didn't have my camera.

Some of the body panels posted in photos here sure look like old US designs !I'm sure no body parts are interchangeable, American styling was heavily borrowed and copied, but the cars are diferent. The Pobeda for example is the first mas-produced car with non-protruding integral fenders. Cool, a Gaz-21 Volga. What year? What's the story behind that one? Too bad I didn't have my camera.the Volga is a 1959, it has been in the states for about ten years, changed a few owners. Originally from Los Angeles, I found it on the Las Vegas craigslist. I haven't done any major work on the Pobeda, I'm on my last year in school, I have to give it all I got to finish.I'm trying to get in touch with Max. M. Guest kluka68
Nice find. Pobeda was the first car which I drove in my life. I was 5 or 6 years old and my grandfather friend driving us back home and let me sit with him and hold the wheel I never forget that moment. It’s been really a long time some 30+ years but I always wanted to get Pobeda. I didn't know they have few GAZ M20 in States though. I bought Datsun 240z several years ago and went through resto mod. But this project is finished now and I am going back my memories more and more and think about Pobeda. I was in Moscow several years ago but it didn't hit me at that time that I can buy Pobeda there. I also found one in Georgia, Tbilisi, in a good shape for $12,000.00. Well, I will be other GAZ M20 owner in States some day. Maybe I can visit Sacramento in my future purchase (I live in LA) and make parade in 2 Pobedas
TG57Roadmaster
Max, congratulations on finding the Pobeda! In the scheme of things, it really didn't take you that long realize your dream. We need more people like you in the hobby, and I hope that the M20 will soon be hitting car shows, including some AACA meets in CA.Great job!TG

Pretty much the same parking and taillights, thought the parking lights are in '47-'48 location. Dash is also a copy of the Ford dash.
