Guest imported_ajszig
It's a 1991 - 95K miles - coolant system regularly flushed by the pros - but the heater is now topping off at about 75-80 degrees F - cycles but never really gets HOT air.Any ideas? Please not the heater core...Thanks
ghostymosty
What is your temperature gauge reaching? If it isn't getting very far up then your engine coolant isn't getting hot enough to make the heater hot.
Guest imported_ajszig
It gets upto mid-range and then the fan cuts in reducing the reading to about 1/4. So it cycles approx 1/4 to 1/2 (maybe a little more than 1/2)
ghostymosty
That sounds like a normal range, so that leaves just coolant flow into the heater core or air flow through the heater core. Check the heater valve that is inline with the heater hoses, heater hoses for collapsing or blockage, flushing out a gunked up heater core to rule out bad coolant flow. Check for air flow bypassing the heater core because of stuck open air doors in the heater box assembly or maybe just a bunch of leaves/debris having worked their way into the heater box through the vents under the hood at the cowl, those would keep airflow over the heater core to a minimum. JRBaiunco
I had the same problem with my 91. Had two contributing problems--------- faulty thermostat and a small leak that prevented the radiator from remaing full. The thermostat opened to early so the temperature was not hot enough and the emty space in the radiator, which was air would not heat up like water. Fixed both, haeter works fine.Joe Baiunco89 Cabernet,black,honey92, red, tan, honey
Guest imported_ajszig
thank you all. I'll try your suggestions as soon as Atlanta warms up. Predicted to be about 18 degrees F tonight
Hemi Dude
The thermostat in the 3.0L engine has a tendency to break, allowing coolant to circulate continuously. Just replace it with a STANT brand thermostat that applies to any 3.0L
