Guest etolen
My wife is the proud new owner of a 1925 Oakland Sedan, in running condition, but it needs a couple parts. It needs a radiator cap/hood ornament. I would either like to get an original one if possible, if not I would like to get pictures of one so I could maybe have one fabricated. The car also has the original paint which is completely gone in a few spots, especially on the engine cover. Should I have the car repainted, and if so what "rules" should I abide by to maintain its original condition?
Any responses are greatly appreciated. Guest
Ed -
Click on this: http://www.poci.org/ for access to the leading marque club for Oakland.
If the better half has an antique car, maybe you ought to consider getting one also - like his and her's Oaklands!
Restoring is always the first thought when a car is not perfect. But if the paint is original and in pretty good shape other than a few thin spots and the car is basically original it could be a prime candidate for HPOF status in the AACA. Take a look at the HPOF rules: http://www.aaca.org/judging/Section4.htm#F. HISTORICAL PRESERVATION OF ORIGINAL FEATURES CATEGORY (HPOF) - for some input about leaving a car original versus partial or full restoration.
Guest c.johnson
Ed,
There is another club for Oaklands, the Oakland Owners Club International (OOCI.) Although they don't have a web site so far, they specialize in ONLY Oaklands, and some even have the same year as yours.
Let me know if you are interested and I can put you in contact with someone.
cj
oakland1922@yahoo.com

Guest
Ed,
Why not try the AACA library. They might be able to provide you with a photocopy of what you're looking for. Also, they might be able to direct you to an Oakland Club.
Good luck.
Roger
