Victory Six Charging Problem

At last I have my generator charging but now find the 'third brush' adjustment makes no change in charging current. Instead, the generator puts out 20 amps at 25 mph or over no matter what the third brush setting. The manual isn't any help, saying adjustments should be made by a service station.

Has anyone any ideas?

John

Thanks for the explanation on third brushes. All 3 brushes are attached to the moving end-plate and rotate in unison when the adjustment screw is turned. However, after a bit of research I found that the last guy to have this generator discarded it for the same problem that I am having, too much charge and no adjustment. The only thing I can think of is that the field windings may have been removed and put back wrong, maybe even rewound incorrectly if it has been rewound.

Does anyone know if I can remove the shunt fuse to safely give the system a rest without harm to the generator? The book says the generator could be harmed if the wire is left unconnected. John
