About 10 years back a 1937 Auto Union race car was discovered behind the (former) Iron Curtain. It was purchased and sent to England for restoration.

The restoration company found the head was beyond repair. This was the most advanced race car of its day, embodying the latest German engineering. The engine was an overhead cam straight eight with aluminum head and block.

They sent the head to a leading firm of aluminum refiners for analysis. Their chief engineer reported "this is the kind of stuff we use for lamp posts and lawn furniture".

In other words the best aluminum alloy available in 1937 is the same as the cheapest used today.

The aluminum can be repaired. It could be cracked, corroded, threads stripped, warped etc.

There are specialists today who do this work all the time, there are so many cars today with aluminum heads and they are all a lot more complicated than yours.

Your local auto machine shop or engine rebuilder may be able to recommend someone. Especially a shop that builds racing engines, they will know all about repairing aluminum heads.
