Recently I have had an intermittent problem with my 1990. The rear brake lights will stick on. If I disconnect the battery and reconnect after 5 minutes the light go out and stay out for a few days. Then they will stick on again. Any ideas please?

Check the brake light switch attached above the brake pedal for proper alignment and travel. Also, make sure it isn't sticking shut (it is a momentary switch) as it may be worn from age.

This switch is just a small assembly that has a plunger which is activated by inward travel of the brake pedal. It is pretty easy to spot, if you look up under the knee bolster on the drivers side and along the brake pedal mount.

Other than that, I can't think of anything that would cause just the brake lights to stay on. A bad/sticking relay would cause most or all (including front) exterior lighting to remain on.
