Guest ballmon
Need a new rack and pinion for my 1990 Reatta. First, what do most people believe, rebuilt vs. new? Secondly, if people do recommend the rebuilt, can you direct me to a remanufacturer of reputable quality? Thirdly, does anyone know the GM part # right off hand so that I can do some searching on the net? Thanks, Barry
D-a-n-i-e-l
Buy rebuilt or new, both will last for a long time. I am using a rebuilt one. I believe it is cardone. Just remember that you need the one with an extra port hole. It took me a while to figure out what one I needed. The extra hole is for the power steering sensor. The rack and pinion is very common so the good news is that either way it is not too pricey.
6ball
rule of thumb on rack & pinion... Rebuilt racks use a steel sleeve after honing out the alumunum bore. They last much longer than original equipment.
