Brake leak / no pressure at hard stops

Hi guys, okay well I will be driving my old reatta from georgia to michigan, the thing is that the owner says that under hard stops the pedal goes to the floor with no stopping, but no red light comes on. There is a leak which i believe to be from the seals on the resovoir, so I am thinking that air got into the system from that, and that I just need to bleed the brakes to make it back home and then further the repairs, any suggestions, comments?

Try bleeding the brakes, but I doubt it will solve the problem. I need to think more about it but it is unlikely that even with a leak, air would not enter the system as long as there was fluid on the other side.

yeah, i have been pondering too, he claims that the level never droped empty, but idk if thats true or not, and I guess the pump runs, so it obviously is a pressure issues, but the accumulator is new (december 06)could it possibly be the pump failing?

Find the leak. It could be a caliper, line or hose, all of which are under pressure during braking (as much as 2500 psi). The reservoir is just gravity except for a few pounds from the return line. Don't drive it until you find it!

I hesitate to suggest this but a number of new purchasers have discovered that warning bulbs have been removed. Do the amber and red lights come on initally with the turn of the key before the car starts?

The leak is under the resovoir, this was my old car, no bulbs were taken out (it was a 90 anyways), I didnt have any of these problems when I had it, but I of course will be looking for a leak on the calipers before I leave.
