brake accumulator

Recommended Posts

My amber abs light has come on and is staying on. No hard pedal or soft pedal. Brakes seem to be working properly. Havent done the brake tests yet from the reatta site. Just in case I need one, does anyone have one available and for how much...I know mine needs to be replaced anyway it is the original...Thanks Roger

Before throwing money at the car it wouldnt hurt to check your abs wheel sensors and make sure they are clean and free of obstructions and not bent out of place. Improper wheel reading will also kick on the light.

The fact that you are not getting the hard pedal would steer me away from just up and replacing the pump just because it is the original. My 89' still has the original and works fine. I believe Tim is offering you good advice.

I am still occasionally getting a kind of hydrolic whine from the rear wheel. The mechanic has taken it apart and cannot find where it is coming from. One year ago I had a bad wheel bearing in that wheel and bought a new caliper housing from tcparts. I will check the wheel sensors. Thanks again for all of the help Roger

Hi David,

I believe he is referring to the accumulator (the black ball) next to the brake reservoir, not the actual pump. The accumulator is supposed to be changed every 5 years under normal use. A worn out accumulator causes the pump to run too often and the result is a burned out pump.. Lou
