91 Reatta Convertable Engine Mount issue

I am a new memeber to the forum. I am glad I found it!

Our Reatta is a summer car. The front of the engine is lifting. It must be the forward engine mount that has failed.

Is this true? Or is it something else.

I have a service manual for the car. However, I have not found any info on the forward mount and how to R&R.

If it is an engine mount I have no idea how to get one.

Can anyone help.

This is a liquid filled mount located behind/ underneath the AC compressor. About 4 bolts as I recall. Would highly recommend you get the car on a hoist and have a mechanic/ or yourself do some selective prying with a stout piece of hardwood or similar and prove that's where all the movement is.

Also an option Jim Finn may have a serviceable/ used one available. Give him a try;

Victor…

I had the same problem on my 91. As Greg said the lower mount is liquid filled. I did replace it and my replacement came from Jim, great guy good prices… I replaced my lower mount because it started leaking… if yours shows no sign of leaks it is probably ok. The oil in it is VERY black, can not mistake it for anything else. (it looks like ink).

I bet your problem is with engine torque… the torque arrestor, dog bone mount on TOP of the engine, is in need of replacement… The rubber bushings in each end should be tight inside the aluminum casting. Very easy to replace and available at any parts place. If the bushings are loose at all the engine will lift in front, that will eventually lead to a cracked exhaust pipe just in front of the cat. I just replaced my dogbone. Cost was less then $20.00 and takes less then 10 minutes to do. What I have found with mine is that all the vibration caused the mount to the engine to come loose. Be sure to check that and tighten as needed.
