WWI Staff Car

Recommended Posts

A few months ago there was a thread about "A 100 Years In a Story About Los Angeles". I was asking about the type of staff car in use by Gen. Pershing. The consensus seemed to be: Cadillac.

I have read recently that Pershing used a Locomobile instead. As a matter of fact, one he used is on display at the Army Ordnance Museum in Aberdeen, MD.

I've got a DVD of a Wheeler and Woolsey comedy from 1930. It's called Half Shot at Sunrise and it concerns the adventures of 2 doughboys AWOL in Paris.

A WW1 Cadillac staff car features in several scenes, including the boys stealing it and later playing a tune on the engine with wrenches with their girlfriend dancing on the roof LOL.

It is true that Cadillac furnished hundreds of cars that were used as transportation for officers, delivering mail and other uses. But Pershing's personal car was a Pierce Arrow.
