Guest Clay2252
Gentlefolk:I know the subjects don't relate all that well, but begging your indulgence, I'd like to ask if anyone knows of a source for clips to hold the side chrome strips on a '49 Custom 8.Also, if someone has the specifications for the manifold studs on the '49 356 cid engine, I'd be grateful for the information. Thanks, Clay
HH56
Restoration Specialties is excellent for Auveco clips as used on many cars. Go to www.restorationspecialties.com/ and download their catalog. In it you will find several pages of clips you can compare yours to (sample attached). They may no longer have identical since Packard did have some strange ones but there's a good chance of finding something that will work. If you want to order a print catalog, the illustrations will be actual size and you can lay your old clip on theirs and see what will work.As to the manifold info, not sure what you are looking for but here is bolt size and torque specs for stud. The lengths listed are 6 that are 2 inches and 2 that are at 4 9/16 inches
Owen_Dyneto
I agree that unless you patronize the major flea markets, Restoration Specialties is the place for the clips. Studs are just ordinary pieces of industrial hardware, measure the thread sizes and lengths and if you can't find them locally in good auto parts stores, try industrial supply houses like MSC in Harrisburg or McMaster-Carr. Dave Mitchell
Studs with fine thread aren't as easy to find - sometimes you have to make them. The best way is on a lathe, to be sure you end up with everything straight, but you can also take a shouldered bolt and cut the head off and thread that end the length you need.
